This delightful Restaurant was recommended by some friends as a suggestion of where to eat before going to Chichester Theatre. What a find! Described as a Modern European Restaurant, the choices were excellent and beautifully presented. Booking is essential.
From a choice of 6 Starters we chose Fishcake with soft poached egg, wilted spinach and hollandaise £5.50. Buttered asparagus with lemon hollandaise and poached egg £8.00. Heirloom tomato bruchetta with torn mozzarella, basil and lemon zest £5.50. Marinated duck breast with Thai Kaffir & sour mango salad and duck crackling £8.00. All very delicious and the eggs cooked to perfection. Wish I had had my camera to show the creative presentation!
Our Main course choices – 6 hour pork belly with mange tout, crushed new potatoes, sea salt crackling, apple chutney and port jus £12.50. 2 sea bass goujons with crushed minted peas, fluffy chips and house tartare sauce £12.50. Lastly, pan-roasted corn-fed chicken supreme with English asparagus, white onion & truffle puree and pu lentil jus £13.50. We all agreed we had not had such a nice meal for a long time. We enjoyed an Italian House Red Merlot at £20 with our meal.
7 Desserts to choose from and although we were all very satisfied, for research purposes, we enjoyed a 2 scoop homemade ice cream of butterscotch and lemon meringue £3.50 and one spiced apple strudel with vanilla clotted cream ice cream £5.50. Very delicious! Followed by an espresso £2 and 3 Americano coffees at £2.50 each. Cost: £££££
Congratulations to Andrew and Yvonne Cohen on the very high standard of their restaurant and their very friendly staff. The Restaurant is in the Sunday Telegraph’s Top 500 Restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland and this year they were awarded a coveted Bib Gourmand in the 2014 Michelin Guide!
It’s set in a beautiful historic building in the centre of Chichester and able to seat 65. It has a lovely walled garden, perfect for al fresco dining. Lunch is served 12-2.30 mon-fri and sun. Sat Lunch is 12-3.30. Afternoon Tea 3-4. Dinner 5.30-11 mon-fri (last orders 9pm) Sat 5-11. They serve a pre theatre dinner. Check their web site for the full menus and more details. We highly recommend!
(Public car park nearby and the restaurant is within walking distance of Chichester Theatre where there is a large car park. Loos are fine, albeit a bit tight for wheelchair access.)
