Yesterday I enjoyed a lovely scenic drive from Winchester through beautiful countryside to Tichborne. @WinchesterLady1 was the navigator, the other member of the party was @SBCSolutions; it was a little incongruous to have a Tweet Up in such a picture post card olde Worlde country pub. (Just trying to sound trendy, not really a Tweet Up we have all know each other for far longer than Twitter has been around!)
The pub is being re thatched, fascinating to watch the thatcher work and its going to look fabulous when finished but it did make going to the outside loo a bit like entering a stable, straw everywhere. The interior of the pub is really well worn and quite dark, more of a Winter destination; I can imagine it with a roaring fire but if it had been a nice day perhaps we could have used the outside area.
We were served promptly with drinks at the bar and then our order was taken at the table. Menu is on a chalk board (I took a photo of it so we could read it at the table) and a paper menu for sandwiches and snacks. 1 course is £9.95, 2, £12.95, 3, £14.95. We all had 2 courses. One had a starter, Smoked Salmon Paté which was very creamy but could have done with a slightly stronger flavour of salmon. Our mains, Lambs Liver, bacon, mash & onion gravy, Pork & Leek sausages, mash & onion gravy, and Wholetail Scampi, chips, peas & salad. The food was tasty and good size portions, the vegetables were not very exciting, carrots & cabbage. Two of us had puds which were very yummy, Raspberry Tartlet & cream, Apple Crumble & Custard.. delicious!
It was busy so it obviously has a very good reputation locally, I would like to go again sometime, friendly helpful service, recommend booking.
Our drinks were 2 white wine spritzers and a soft drink, total Cost ££££
