The Hunters Inn has recently had a refurb and has been taken over by the same people who own The Malthouse Inn, home of the famous Carols Carvery  Timsbury and The Sun Inn, Romsey. One of the Ladies who Lunch lives very near to the Hunters so two of us joined her and popped in for a quick snack lunch … The quick lunch took forever! When we gave our food order the bar staff, who were very friendly, said there was a 15 minute wait.. we eventually got our food about 45 minutes later. Why, we don’t know why as they were not busy and our order was very simple.. all we wanted was from the lighter bites choice, a bacon and brie baguette, a sharing platter of nachos, and a Thai curry!

hunters (3) hunters (2)
hunters (1) When the food arrived it was fine. We have given a low mark for the service because of the ridiculously long wait for food, the bar staff were very pleasant. Hopefully things will improve when they are more established. Largish restaurant bar and also a public bar with a separate entrance. We drank lager and cider so Cost £££

Please help to spread the word by telling any restaurants you visit that you tried them because you were recommended by LWL in Hampshire… Thank you!

Ladies Who Lunch Scoring:

Quality of food 2/5
Variety of menu 3/5
Staff and service 2/5
Ambience & décor 3/5

Total Yummy Factor

Report: CJ

5/5 = Cannot be improved upon, 4/5 = Very good, 3/5 = Good,
2/5 = Satisfactory, 1/5 = Poor, 0/5 = Terrible

The higher the “Yummy” factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. (Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head)

  1. I am very puzzled as to how anyone can slate the hunters! it’s a very family friendly pub with a large beer garden, welcoming staff and an excellent menu. The menu has a wide variety of meals, something for all the family and the price is average for pub food. I have eaten there numerous times and have never had to complain! The hunters is my local and I’m glad it is! 5/5 on every aspect!

  2. We spent a very nice afternoon at the Hunters Inn. We ate quality food & the service was excellent. We will be going there again & will recommend it to friends.

  3. Knew we’d hear from you John! Sorry you had a disappointing experience. We lunched in Romsey again last Friday and it was excellent… you’ll have to wait to hear where, just hope you agree with us!

  4. My wife and I had a similar experience only we were very dismissive of the food. We both had the daily pie. The pastry was underdone but the contents were fine. The veg was uninspiring. The presentation was far below what I expected. The pie was in an individual dish, the veg came in a separate dish and both these were delivered on a large plate with a dollop of mash. Unless they buck their ideas up we won’t be eating there again. We await other reports.
