silver LWL Silver Award – Awarded December 2012 – Cost £££££

Dans Kitchen was opened in July 2011. It is a superb little restaurant by the green in St Helen’s.Husband and wife team Dan and Carla are helped by local people who serve in the restaurant; Carla is front of house.

Dan’s food is creative modern European and the menu changes daily. His food and presentation reflects the prestigious places he has worked including Alex Aitken’s much missed Whitley Ridge, now The Pig, and with Jake Watkins at JSW in Petersfield.

Staff are polite and attentive and the place is always busy even at lunchtimes which confirms the consistent high quality. I’d almost give the food five because it is as enjoyable as in much higher priced and Michelin rated establishments; I believe this place is worth at least a Bib Gourmande!

The restaurant is perhaps a bit austere so loses points there as does the service which is honest, friendly and efficient without being outstanding.

There is a small al fresco area for when the weather is suitable.

Do look at the sample menus on their website; this small local restaurant is well worth a visit but better book, it is very popular.

Cost: £££££

Please help to spread the word by telling any restaurants you visit that you tried them because you were recommended by LWL in Hampshire… Thank you!

Total Yummy Factor

Guest Report: D O’M

5/5 = Cannot be improved upon, 4/5 = Very good, 3/5 = Good,
2/5 = Satisfactory, 1/5 = Poor, 0/5 = Terrible

The higher the “Yummy” factor, the better the food & service. The higher the number of £ signs the more expensive. (Roughly one £ sign = £5 per head)
