To celebrate having reached a certain significant age in my life I suggested we enjoy afternoon tea as a change from lunch!  Having telephoned several hotels in the area and having been told about “Tea at the White Horse”, the booking was made.

Afternoon Tea at The White Horse is an elegant experience white linen table cloths and bone china being the order of the day.  We ate in the Palmerston Room which oozes history as does the whole building.  Visit their website for the history details along with their very good lunch time offer and click here for our lunch review.

We enjoyed fruit tea, Earl Grey and “normal” tea!  The finger sandwiches arrived; there were choices of smoked salmon, ham & honey mustard, egg & cress and salad & cream cheese, made with a mixture of brown or white bread and of course no crusts.

Next came an amazing selection of cakes (fruit, Bakewell and lemon), warm fruit or plain scones with clotted cream, jam and lemon curd.  Strawberry or mixed berry fruit tarts and small pink meringues and some shortbread biscuits.  All fresh, totally delicious, homemade and so much!We were aghast but our waiter said “no problems ladies, doggy bags are provided for you”!  We were five and we certainly had our fill.  However, we still managed to take plenty home with us.

This wonderful afternoon tea is such good value at a cost of £25 for 2 people.  It was a lovely birthday treat and I highly recommend! Cost £££ including tip.

(PS from CJ. I’m on a high protein diet so it’s been agony typing this for SM, longing for a cake!)

Please help to spread the word by telling any restaurants you visit that you tried them because you were recommended by LWL in Hampshire… Thank you!
